Creating Great Schools and Colleges
Why do some Schools and Colleges perform better than others - in my view it is simply down to two critical elements, namely leadership and teaching.
There is no doubt that leadership is difficult but it doesn’t have to complex. The leader whether in education or business creates the ethos and sets the standards. Good leaders are not always liked but usually respected.
So what are the p5e 5 key principles of leadership:
1. Create Positive thinking
Develop a shared vision with shared accountability
Create a positive can do, open, honest and transparent team working culture
Avoid finger pointing and blame
Praise and reward achievement.
2. Identify your critical essentials
Ensure you have the right people in the right positions, doing the right things with the right support (managers, teachers and support staff) - the whole organisational approach
3. Identify your critical non-essentials
This is your unique selling point (USP), the element that makes you different, more efficient and effective than the others. This will take your organisation from good to great.
4. Enjoyment
Working and learning should be fun
A structured positive environment encourages better school and college attendance
Teachers and students better perform in a positive “can do” and fun environment
5. Never compromise on standards
Enjoy the moments of success
Raise the bar
Take chances and dare to change
Let every experience be a learning experience – this will make you better at what you do
“There is nothing wrong with change, if it is in the right direction”
Sir Winston Churchill
